Hate mail, mean-spirited pranks, bomb scares, and some very bad poety all threaten to ruin the holiday season for Toby Martin and her foil, Freddy Galvin.

Little kid pranks escalate into serious threats when Toby, her pals, and Mrs. Trattles are specifically identified on a “hit list.” After Toby’s beloved Grandma is also targeted, Toby knows she must become Toby Martin: School Sleuth.

Can she stop the terrorist or will it be “bombs away” instead of “Deck the Halls” for Toby and her pals?

THANKSGIVING TURKEY
Original recipe makes 1 (12 pound) turkey Change Servings
  •  6 tablespoons butter, divided
  •   4 cups warm water
  • 3 tablespoons chicken bouillon
  • 2 tablespoons dried parsley
  • 2 tablespoons dried minced onion
  • 2 tablespoons seasoning salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Rinse and wash turkey. Discard the giblets, or add to pan if they are anyone's favorites.
  2. Place turkey in a Dutch oven or roasting pan. Separate the skin over the breast to make little pockets. Put 3 tablespoons of the butter on both sides between the skin and breast meat. This makes for very juicy breast meat.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine the water with the bouillon. Sprinkle in the parsley and minced onion. Pour over the top of the turkey. Sprinkle seasoning salt over the turkey.
  4. Cover with foil, and bake in the preheated oven 3 1/2 to 4 hours, until the internal temperature of the turkey reaches 180 degrees F (80 degrees C). For the last 45 minutes or so, remove the foil so the turkey will brown nicely.

Old Family recipe Dressing

A “no man” policy doesn’t count when someone’s trying to kill you. A name can mean a lot. You expect Jasper to be a CEO of a company. Name your kid Phineas, well, he’ll get beat up a lot. Name your daughter Trubleh (true blay), and you’ll get nothing but trouble. Trubleh Lawrence makes a habit out of discovering dead bodies.

Old Family Recipe Thanksgiving Dressing

Mama's advice on preparation:

1. NEVER STUFF THE STUFFING. Dressing rarely cooks all-the-way-through if you stuff it inside the bird. And you run the risk of salmonella. Put it in a casserole dish

2. DON'T SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON IT. With all the different dishes to try, few people are going to complement an ordinary dish like dressing, OR pay that much attention to it.

Recipe:

3. Pick up 2 boxes of ordinary stuffing mix at the grocery store. Prepare according to directions.

When the stuffing is finished:

Mix in 1 sm. raw onion, or 1/2 raw vidalia onion minced very fine, or pulverized in a food processor. (yes raw!)

Add:

1 tsp. ground sage

1 tsp. salt

1/2 cup white wine (non-alcoholic white cooking wine is fine)

Mix thoroughly and place in a Cooking Spray Coated, covered caserole.

You can warm it slightly in the microwave, just before serving, or keep it warm in a very low oven, 185 or less, but do NOT bake this. The raw onion taste is what makes it unique and you don't want to cook it long enough to change that.

Trouble in River City

by Tom Glaviano

When a hurricane rages on the coast, wreaking havoc on the lives of the people who live there, the most dangerous threat in the winds and crashing waves may not come from nature. Clayton Ackerman has made a life chasing the hurricanes, storms and blizzards that at times ravage virtually every part of the nation. While covering a tropical storm that was battering the Gulf Coast, Ackerman has an altercation with a young woman that turns deadly and opens his eyes to the potential he’d overlooked for years.
Hurricane Party Chicken Italiano

Servings: 4
Marinate time: 30 minutes to 2 hours
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 14 minute

INGREDIENTS:
1 loaf Italian bread, quartered

1-1/2 cups bottled Italian Dressing

4 (4-ounce) Chicken Breasts

1 medium Tomato, sliced

4 Romaine lettuce leaves, chopped

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

DIRECTIONS:
1. Pour Italian dressing into a resealable plastic bag. Add chicken breasts and gently massage dressing into each piece. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to 2 hours.

2. Slice bread loaf lengthwise, then cut into 4 sections. Wrap in foil and set aside.

Works well with, or without, hurricane. And if you, like we, are thankful to say, no hurricane THIS year, read the book above and you'll be even gladder.

3. Slice tomato and chop lettuce; set aside.

4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

5. Heat a large skillet over medium heat for 3 minutes. Remove chicken from marinade and place in skillet. Cook for 6-7 minutes per side, until no longer pink.

6. While the chicken is cooking, place bread in oven and heat for 7-8 minutes.

7. Assemble sandwiches and sprinkle each chicken breast with 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese.

Serve immediately. Pairs well with chips and a pickle spear!

Easily increases to party-size with more Italian Loaves...etc.
