Catching UP!

Books that have Gone to Press, or back to Press this week:
GAIA'S DREAM, Poetry by Terry L White. “Reading Terry L. White’s newest collection of poems,
Gaia’s Dream, is rather like having a many-layered, meandering conversation with a good friend. She can be casual as she meditates, questions, daydreams, or projects herself into history, but she never forgets the kind of world we live in, the difficulties and disappointments of life — her own and others — and even when she is evoking old memories, she is firmly grounded in the present…”
— Caroline Trippe is a painter and writer. Her own illustrated books, published by Blurb, include Persephone, Crown of Leaves: Three Tales from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Cupid and Psyche. Allerleirauh, and The Rapunzel Room.

WANTED: ROYAL PRINCESS SHOCK AND AWE, by Anna Dynowski, Royal Hearts of Mondoverde Series, Vol. 4
Prince Maximillian, the playboy prince, is having way too much fun with the ladies, young and old and everything in between, to keep his name clean. Incorrigible, he’s been synonymous with scandalous headlines since he turned sixteen. While his laughing eyes, smooth talk, and charming manner make him the darling female population, the Graziano royal family despairs of him ever settling down. But can he find a woman who will rein in his wild streak and fix his princely image?

Galleys that went out, or went out again this week:
THE LAST CHRONICLER by Judy Johns Heathcoe
While tunneling through a mountain in the Russian Southern Urals, a team of engineers are trapped in a deep, large, cavern containing a living rain forest. Looking for a way out, they discover a hermitage that once was home to a historical society who called themselves chroniclers, whose members were able to travel in time to view a famous person or event in order to record history correctly.
In the hermitage library, among the many chronicles, they are privileged to view the lives of Vincent van Gogh, Edgar Allan Poe, and Nicholas II, last Tsar of Russia, and his family.  But hiding out and watching their every move are the remaining chroniclers who are determined to keep their existence a secret, even to the point of murdering any that discover it. The engineers find themselves running for their lives through the seemingly endless forest, wondering whether they would face death at the hands of the dangerous and adamant chroniclers. . .or the primeval creatures of the forest.

NOODLES, by Elan Mufti

The 19-year-old was a boy headed for trouble. His father hoped that the responsibility and overseas life experience would change his son's attitude. In fact the culture shock does make him change, but not in the way his father hoped for...

I haven't had any mail this week, not even from my friend Andy Nunez, who is usually pretty busy around this time of year.  Well, actually, Arline heard  that he is working on a third volume of Ghosts of the Eastern Shore, so maybe he has been collecting some new stories for that.  OTOH he could be ghost hunting again.

Everyone knows Andy's Illustrated volumes about Treasures, and Ghosts, and Pirates, but did you know he has an actual novel out?  That's right, Crimson Need is a real novel, all about Vampires, and set in Salisbury, Maryland.

As for here at home, there are big doings in the front yard. Three HUGE Trucks, with Shannahan Well Service, on the doors are parked in the driveway with loud motors running all day long, even though they haven't moved an inch. I've been watching from the window while a Large Pile of pipes disappeared one, by, one.

My baby sister, Spunky, ever-curious, ran right outside to see what was going on. But as she was closing in on the men, her nose twitching with curiosity, the motors started again and she ran right under Roger's pickup. And there she stayed until all the strange men had disappeared and the trucks were gone.

In fact it was almost dark when Roger finally caught her and brought her in the house. Hmmmm I'm so glad all that kind of stuff is beneath me.

PLEASE don't YOU forget to send me news of any personal appearances, signings and so on... so I'll have some gossip to pass on next week.

Fans Favorite in a Ghostly Series

Shannon Delaney Paranormal Mystery Series, Vol. 3

Gavin turned to me and queried, “This isn’t the first time you’ve seen ghosts, is it?” …And so begins Shannon Delaney’s assignment to write publicity for the Spotted Coyote. As the right spot for Grub, Spirits and Conjuring, it’s an entertainment venue that’s a re-invention of an Old-West Saloon in California’s historic mountain town of Julian.

The Spotted Coyote is more than what Shannon bargained for when she discovers the century-old murder of little Sarah Morghan. Sarah’s ghost will not be denied, leaving Shannon no choice but to pursue haunting clues that pair jumping rope rhymes with rare books, treasure lore with a ghostly angel and an uncanny connection to the Scottish paranormal author, Robert Louis Stevenson. Assisting Shannon is Francisco Zavala, Alex Blackthorne and Shannon’s very own spectral guide; phantom magician from the 1800s, Eric Blackthorne.

Had a note from Terry L. White, an author I have known all my life, as me and my litter-mates were born under her bed.  She petted us every day, so we would learn to love humans and be ready to find forever homes, unlike our mama, the feral "Miss Kitty", who was a "traveling lady" anxious to return to her life of freedom -- which she did -- after a visit to the vet to get shots so on.  Terry found forever homes for all five of us.

From Terry:

   THE LIMITEDS by Jennifer Kirsch
Fourteen-year-old Luke dreams of spending July at  Camp Unlimited, where campers explore cave networks, set off fireworks in pyrotech workshops, and sleep in tree house hammocks. But to get into the camp, Luke needs to demonstrate excellence in a sport, the arts, or
school.
More likely, he’ll end up at SURF, his town’s rec camp, where athlete’s foot, mildew, and warts plague the gym, bedbugs and lice infest the couches, and clumps of hair make frequent appearances in the burgers.

Now that the computer has been fixed again, again, and yet again. Arline spent all week doing data entry on the payroll for October.  She is almost finished, thank goodness. So you all will be getting your payment for the quarter soon.
Heard from Ann Foley, who sent the following: The Writers Bloc meets Saturday, October 15, from 1-3 p.m. in Room 3 of the Salisbury Library.
Sure hope they have a good time tomorrow.
Arline says the following notice will be included with all payment information this month, but because not all of us had sales, she wants me to post it again here. So here it is, One More Time. If you know anyone who doesn't check in regularly, please let them know:
Write Words, Inc. will be phasing out of operation over the next few years. After 17 years of operating a business funded entirely by revenue from book sales we find that is no longer possible. As it always has been, the workload is just too much for one person.

As most of you know, Shelley resigned two years ago. Originally, I had hoped she would take over one day, perhaps after her own retirement, and keep Write Words in business for all of you, but this is no longer feasable as she plans to return to Canada as soon as her house is sold.

A couple of years ago, when this plan was first suggested most of you were against it, but we no longer have a choice. On advice of our Accountant the following will occur, starting now:

1. The WriteWordsInc.com book store /web site will close on or before Jan 1, 2017, but books still under their original two-year contracts will remain on sale for their full term, unless the author wishes to change that. The cost of maintaining a sales web site with a shopping cart and and accepting credit card payments for it is considerable and last year we sold five books from our own web site. So far this year the count comes to One.

2. All published books still under contract will remain on sale at Amazon.com, Smashwords and and other web bookstores unless you tell us to STOP.  You are free to make other arrangements at any time if you keep us informed..
    a. In making other arrangements you are free to use, without charge, any and all book and covers files created by us, but not our ISBNs, as ISBNs are publisher specific.  Whether you sign with another publisher, or choose to self publish, it is not legal to use an ISBN attached to our company...

3. After paying the final quarter of this year in January, we will be doing the payroll annually, thereafter, in January.

4. After the first of next year, any and all books that have not yet reached two years from the publication date (The Date printed on the Copyright Page) will remain on sale until the time runs out, or the Author cancels the contract, whichever comes first. Older books will be phased out first.

Most of us would prefer to be paid more often, of course. And I expect that many of you will choose to move your books to places that do pay more often, perhaps to Create-Space who have printed my books for years so they already have the files and should be able to produce books for you at little or no cost. But for those who don't want to be bothered with all the changes (like me), Write words will remain open for awhile yet. If any of these circumstances change, you will be duly notified.
