A life in ruins—and a journey of deliverance...Lizzie Hamilton’s life as a pampered belle in the antebellum South is over.  Alone and destitute due to the disintegration of her family’s fortunes, she makes the mistake of trusting a handsome but unprincipled professional gamble whose silver-tongued promises lead only to disgrace and virtual servitude.

Galleys that went out, are still out, or went out again, this week:

PERIPHERAL VISION, by Joan L. Cannon.

Peripheral Vision suggests to a reader hints of deeper issues than those that comprise the stories themselves. Loss is a recurring theme, but often is approached with sidelong glances rather than only with head-on views.

ROYAL PRINCESS: WIFE AND MOTHER, Royal Hearts of Mondoverde Series, Vol. 1 by Anna Dynowski
Prince Stefano, Crown Prince of Mondoverde, never shirks the responsibilities attached to his privileged position. Born to reign and trained from birth, he accepts his life is not his own and does not complain about his duties to the House of Graziani, at least, not publically. But now he must wed and produce the next heir to the throne. Can he find a woman who is willing to take him on, embrace the public life of a royal princess, and produce the required heir?

DOING DEAD MAN'S TIME, by Matthew L. Schoonover

Phil Talbot is in the here-after, awaiting judgment. He is given the opportunity to come back to the mortal plane and fix the one mistake that changed his supernatural fate. But there are two conditions: he isn’’t to know what that mistake is, and he is not allowed to come back as himself. To add to this, the ‘‘other side’’ gets a hand in helping to decide his fate.

ANNALS OF A DANGEROUS HANDYMAN, by Geoff Geauteerre

THE BOY WHO COULD TALK TO ANIMALS: Magic Book Series, Vol. 2, by Evelyn Moll
A young adult story of adventure.

Work began or Continued on the following books:

THE KIDNAPPING OF SEN. ANDY THOMPSON: Adventures on Capital Hill Series, Vol. 2.
   by Celine Rose Mariotti

Do you ever wonder what it would be like to have U.S. Senators who really did their job, got along well, and stood up for what was right? This is not your typical book about politics.  It’s the perfect U.S. Senate!  Throughout the book, there is an ongoing health care debate.  Senators Andy Thompson and Hunt Wagner lead the way with a resolution to try to stop President Robinson and Secretary von Schumann from sending troops to Botswana.  But a real adventure begins when Senator Thompson is kidnapped and Brian Travors, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State is suspected of being involved.  Senators Hunt Wagner and Darius Clemens head a committee hearing to get to the truth.  President Robinson suffers a heart attack and Vice-President Barry Newman takes over temporarily.  This book is a real page turner!  Read it and you’ll have hope for tomorrow!

Earthquake in Messina Italy, in the early 20th Century

STORYBOOK II, by Elena Dorothy Bowman

Within the pages of this book are stories that my mother once told me; of certain incidences that she remembered. But mostly it is compiled of the memories that were a part of all our lives.
There were happy times and there were sad times. It was a time of struggle, of prosperity, of joblessness, of wondering where the next paycheck would come from.  Times when a “breadwinner” didn’t have the money to buy a quart of milk, put bread on the table, or a dime to ride the trolley to work. Even a time when the poor didn’t know they were poor. But always, a family that stood together no matter what problems they were facing.

Jack's News!

by your bookstore cat,  gossip columnist, and feline friend.

What an exciting week this has been. Everyone was thankful for everything, especially for family members, including feline ones.  Sid's girlfriend Kathy brought us a "big bird" -- at least that's what they said it was, but I never saw a bird that big in my life. I watch them flying around all the time and they are little annoying things that like to steal your hair to put in their nests.

Anyway, Arline cooked the "big bird" and everyone came and ate and but they couldn't fool me! It might smell good, but if it isn't really  crunch, then it isn't food a feline fellow could possibly digest.

They did all give me extra treats though, my usual good "Beachside Flavor" kind. So by the end of the day all the feline people in this house were as stuffed as the human ones.  I don't know how Big Bird could look so different than he does on TV, anyway. No yellow feathers at all!

No kidding! The silly stories they think I will swallow.

Don't forget me IF you are going to have a book signing somewhere,

make a personal appearance, or are

planning a launch party where you live,

please let ME KNOW. Just put

Happy Thanksgiving!

The Topp family -- Jim, his wife Mary, and teenage son Rocky -- lived on the farm at the lower end of the valley. The roaming elk foraging for food didn’t really bother the Topp family all that much, except when they had to occasionally chase one or two out of their vegetable garden, or the small corn patch the Topps would plant each year. But what followed the elk down from the mountains, shadowing the animal’s movements did...

HAPPY
THANKSGIVING!

WRITE WORDS, INC.

We are grateful for each and every one of you.

And for the fact that Hank LeGrand's bear is spending the holiday

Question from the e-mail.

Something better to do on Black Friday

Former Special Agent Kathrin Night is not adjusting to civilian life. More than a year after her career-ending injury, she still can’t get the hang of it. This is wearing thin on her lover, Russian FSB Agent Aleksey Khovechkin, who tricks Kathrin into seeing a psychiatrist specializing in post-military/espionage patients.

Question from the E-mail:  How do you start a story? How long does it take you to come up with a great opening line??

Answer:  That's two questions.

How I start a story is I sit down and write it.  I don't worry about the opening line until after it's finished.

If I stopped and worried about the opening line, it would take forever.I usually find that opening line somewhere on page 3! Once the story is finished, it will be there somewhere. All I have to do then, is move it.

Work began or Continued on the following books:

THE LITTLE MORNINGS, by C. M. Albrecht
Life's all about choices. Every time we turn around we have to make a choice. It's always choices. And most of the time we make bad ones. At least I do. I don't know why, but someway, somehow, I always make the wrong choice. It isn't because I don't know any better or lack sound advice. Time after time people--people who know--point out the error of my thinking and still by God, knowing that, and taking everything into account and admitting they're undoubtedly right, I still have to go and do it anyway.

I'm sure something is going on with SOME of you, but I haven't heard much this week. Please remember to e-mail us with "News for Jack" on the subject line and I will tell the whole world right here.

Roger has been practicing the guitar this week, and singing Christmas music. Hey, I know it's not even Thanksgiving yet, but whenever the Spirit moves you, it's time to play! He has a special song he sings, just for me. "How Much is that Mousie in the window?" Sometimes, I even sing along. Just can't help myself.
