Jack's News!
  by your Official Bookstore Cat,
and Gossip Columnist.
HI Everyone,
Jack here, your favorite bookstore cat.  I heard from our friends at Writers Bloc, about their meeting last week:

The Bloc met October 21 at Seaford Library, in a room worthy of a high-powered law firm. Chief Counsel Tom Taylor presided. Also present were Andy, George, Shirley G, Jerry, Ann, and Seafordian Elvira George.

Our host, Librarian Jerry K, stopped by and Tom gave him a set of Bloc anthologies for the library's collection. The friends of the library had received email notice of our meeting, luring Elvira into joining us. She's interested in screen writing and poetry.

Tom reported on his presentation at the Thrive program in Salisbury's MAC Center, which several members attended. Greg Bassett was there and Tom will call and see if he might be willing to publicize Noir in the Independent. If anyone should find any error in their own Noir submission, please let Tom know.

Tom gingerly turned us to Anthology Five, asking for suggestions on a theme. Andy declined to participate after all the grief we gave him about #4, so we need to coax him into re-challenging us. Jerry was first with a suggestion: “Pets and Other Non-Human Critters.” The lack of the commercial mention “Eastern Shore” was noted, but could perhaps be stressed in our name.

Requirements were reviewed: 2,500 words (+or– 10%), or 3 poems; illustration for each submission; original work created for the anthology; first rights to the Bloc; all other rights reverting to the author. . .

George read four poems created for a poetry workshop he's been attending at SU and Rita read one inspired by her recent visit to the Gaudi basillica in Barcelona.

MEMORANDUM
Just have to ASK, Jerry! "Non-Human Critters???" Surely you don't include felines in that Group! I have known many Homo Sapiens with far less Humanity than Most Felines, So THERE!
For any one who Noticed, my Baby Sister stayed out all night again with Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown, the black stray who was living down by the river. He did okay this summer -- had a nice nest inside the old beached barge and caught plenty of little fish in thepond, but now that it's getting colder Spunky has been worrying about him and even tried to convince Roger to bring him inside Our House. She's still a baby and likes to play and as your Official Bookstore Cat, I'm far too dignified to PLAY! So of course thats why she wanted him.
Roger said, "No!' because, "One tomcat per household is enough!"
Anyway, our neighbor, Dominick, has been feeding Leeroy lately, because small fish don't come up in the pond anymore after the water gets cool and Leroy was starting to look a bit thin. Nick built him a nice warm place to sleep inside his back porch, too. Bad Leroy had no trouble figuring out the cat door either.(Not after Spunky showed him what to do, of course.)
So that's Bad Leroy, taken care of for the winter. Nick already has three Girl kitties who live inside his house, so Leroy will have plenty of company, if he chooses to go all the way inside... He still has some trust issues where Humans are concerned, though, so it may take awhile.
Meanwhile if any of you, My Favorite Authors, are going to conferences, holding book signings, or have any news or some good gossip for me.
