Boiled Fruitcake - recipe

Louise Thellian’s Boiled Fruitcake *
*Given to me by my beloved friend Babs.


Boil together for 5 minutes:

1 lb. seedless raisins
1 lb. brown sugar
2 tbsp. lard (or margerine)
2 cups water

Let cool, then transfer to a big deep mixing bowl, then add:

2 Level tbsp. of baking soda dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water

Mix the following together and add to mixture:

4 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 cup chopped nuts

Pour into 2 loaf pans that have been greased and floured. Bake at 350-F or 177-C degrees for 1 hour.
